Aflatoxin is one of the most toxic substances known to man and can cause serious illness and health problems. The Detox™ revolutionary sorting system will remove contaminated product to provide a clean and safe saleable product.

BEST has developed an optical sorting system able to detect and reject aflatoxin in nuts (peanuts, almonds, hazelnuts, etc) and dried fruit (figs).

Seeing the invisible

The Detox™ laser sorter utilizes a special optical design that allows aflatoxin contamination to be detected and removed. This laser-technique can capture the extremely low intensity of the light reflected by the fungus. When this type of fungus is illuminated with a particular wavelength, it reflects light with a distinctive pattern, a unique fingerprint. The laser system recognizes this fingerprint leading to the removal of aflatoxin contaminated material at high flow rates. Detox™ can detect the aflatoxin biological signature even though it is invisible to the human eye.
